The second week of practice is underway for area high school football teams, and the Fairfield Trojans were on top of their game mode Monday.
“This was a great practice today,” Trojans head coach Nate Weaton said. Fairfield has a scrimmage scheduled for Friday.
Area football gets a start on the 2021 high school season with a number of scrimmages.
Fairfield’s Meet the Trojans schedule lists a 7 p.m. start and has a scrimmage listed for each sport: football, cross-country, girls swimming and volleyball.
Other teams with home football scrimmages are Washington with Muscatine coming to Case Field for a 5:30 p.m. start in new coach Nick Ehret’s first Demon action. WACO hosts English Valleys in an 8-man scrimmage.
Mt. Pleasant’s football team travels to Ottumwa’s Schaefer Field for a 5:30 scrimmage with the Bulldogs.
Sigourney-Keota will start its trek to a hopeful improvement on last season’s semifinal appearance in the UNI-Dome with a trip to Davis County. Cardinal will visit New Sharon for a tilt against North Mahaska for a football scrimmage and Van Buren County is at Albia.
Mid-Prairie has a name for their scrimmage against West Liberty at Dr. Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman.
The Gator Bowl will allow admission to the night’s events with a sports drink as the ticket.
Concessions will be available. The contest will be on a livestream from the National Federation of State High School Associations Network at nfhsnetwork.com/schools/midprairie-high-school-wellman-ia
The night starts early. From 5:15-6 p.m. various Mid-Prairie activities will be recognized. The dance team will perform, the drama players will put on a skit, FFA, FCCLA, esports, cross-country and volleyball all will get attention before the football player auction from 6-7:30 p.m.
The Golden Hawks scrimmage against the Comets is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. and last until 9 p.m.
