After pitching a strong game, Highland?s Caleb Brase took it upon himself to secure his team?s victory.
The Highland junior tossed 5 2/3 innings pitched, and despite leaving the game in a 3-3 tie, decided to make sure his team left the field with a win.
In the bottom of the seventh, Brase sent a fly ball to left field for a sacrifice fly, giving the Huskies a 4-3 victory over New London.
?It was a good job out of everyone,? Highland head coach Seth Millidge said. ?We played well defensively tonight, and overall, we are trying to get better every day. We just beat the team that was at the top of our district, and we are very close in points as far as who will be the No. 1 seed in the district.?
The win puts Highland at 10-5 this year, as they marked their fourth win in five games.
Highland mustered seven hits in the victory, with Brase earning two of the RBIs in the contest.
Brase also allowed four hits in the game with one walk, before Brody Burton came in and pitched 1 1/3 innings to earn the victory.
?Caleb Brase was outstanding all night,? Millidge said. ?He threw 57 pitches through 5 2/3, which is impressive. Then we have a freshman in Brody Burton, who comes in and gets it done in the end.?
The Huskies will advance to face Albia on Monday night.
