Highland defeats Hillcrest Academy in 1A Region 7 second round
Huskies use big second quarter to push past Ravens in postseason conference clash

RIVERSIDE — Southeast Iowa Super Conference North foes Highland and Hillcrest Academy squared off on Tuesday night in a Class 1A Region 7 second round matchup.
It was a victorious night for Highland (17-7) as the Huskies advance with a 53-34 win over the Ravens (11-12).
The conference rivals were neck and neck through one quarter. Three points is all that separated the pair through eight minutes of play.
For Highland, the second quarter ended up being a difference maker. The Huskies dropped in a game high 21 points in the second period, while holding the Ravens to just six.
By the halftime whistle, the Highland lead piled to 33-15.
Hillcrest Academy continued to battle despite the steep deficit. The Ravens nearly got it to within 10 after a hot start to the quarter, but the Huskies once again closed well.
The Ravens went on to outscore the Huskies 13-11 in the third, but Highland still sat with a 44-28 advantage heading into the fourth.
Highland went on to edge Hillcrest Academy 9-6 in the final frame to keep its season alive.
Kamryn Fink scored 16 points for Highland. Hailey Brun followed with 14 and Katelyn Thomann 13.
With the win, Highland improves to 17-7 and will take on Springville (18-4) in the next round.
Hillcrest Academy ends its season at 11-12.
