MONTEZUMA — Highland’s postseason run was ended prematurely on Tuesday night in the Class 1A Substate 6 Quarterfinals.
The Huskies were bested by South Iowa Cedar’s second seeded Montezuma, 50-39. Highland was short-handed in the contest, with star guard Abbi Stransky suffering an ACL tear in the Huskies first round game against Lone Tree.
Despite being 16 point underdogs, according to BCMoore, Highland came to shatter that narrative, and they did.
Highland trailed by just four, 10-6, following the first quarter and cut the lead to just two, 20-18, by the end of the second. The Huskies scored the final five points of the second and held all the momentum heading into the half.
In the third, the Huskies went cold and the Bravettes took control.
Montezuma outscore Highland 15-4 in the third to make it a 35-22 ballgame. The Huskies would turn around and win the fourth 17-15, but it wasn’t enough.
Sarah Burton paced Highland with 21 points. The Huskies end their season with a 12-11 record.
