Highland girls, WMU boys golf teams pick up wins

WINFIELD — The Highland and Winfield-Mount Union golf teams split at Twin Lakes Golf Course on Monday. The Highland girls won 224-249, and the WMU boys won with a 191, as Highland didn’t have enough players to score.
On the girls side, the Huskies got a big boost from Charlie Archer, who dominated the field with a 44, winning medalist honors by 12 strokes.
Kelsi Cerny and Kerry Longbine each scored 59 for the Huskies. Jenna Waters finished at 62. Carson Mellinger shot 68.
WMU’s Abbie Cooley earned runner-up honors with a 56. Ava Hagge shot a 59. Isabel Kann finished at 64, and Allie Humphreys rounded out the Lady Wolves with a 70.
WMU took the top five spots in the boys meet. Brady Loyd led the way with a 44, and Jacob Kongable was the runner-up with a 47.
Carter Loyd shot 49 on the day. Bryce Wade and Seth Schurr each finished at 51, and Isaac Schurr shot 54.
Highland had just three players on the boys side. Peyton Yeggy led the team with a 52. Jameson Kasperek shot 64, and Brock Schaedler ended the day at 68.
