Highland girls wrestling hosts 22 team tournament
Columbus/WMU, Highland, Mid-Prairie, Mt. Pleasant, Pekin and WACO represent Union area

RIVERSIDE — Highland girls wrestling hosted one of the biggest girls’ wrestling tournaments on Friday night with Highland Girls Wrestling Tournament.
Out of a 22 team field, six Union area teams competed with those being Columbus/WMU, Highland, Mid-Prairie, Mt. Pleasant, Pekin and WACO.
Host Highland, secured a first and second place finish on the day. Chloe Sexton took the title at 190 and Angelina Roling was the runner-up at 110.
Other placers for the Huskies were Peggy Miller at 155. Miller finished third. Jenna Bose ended in fourth at 145 and Abbie Grout placed sixth at 100.
Mid-Prairie ended the day with 11 total placers. Ashlee Farrier was the leading competitor, taking the crown at 130. Mardie Berry and Ellie Callahan were second overall finishers at 155 and 170 respectively.
Austyn Sexton (115) placed third, while Ellie Brenneman (135), Shelby Stacey (235) and Becca Westfall (110) followed with fourth place finishes. Gabby Gingerich (120) ended in fifth, as well as Taylor Pence (140). Adelyn Huston (145) and Ruby Miller (105) each placed sixth.
WACO closed the tournament with one winner in Elyssa Graber. Graber finished first overall at 105. Other Warrior’s to place were Emma Szewczyk at 155 and Macy Bonebrake at 190. Both ended the competition at fourth overall. Cayten Coakley (155) and Athena Flores (120) wrestled as well, but did not place.
For Columbus/WMU, Josie Nelson led the way with a second-place finish 135. Nelson notched 22 points for the Wildcats. Jana Isanta followed with a fourth overall finish at 120. Yaleen Miranda (130), Jada Moats (170) and Lecet Quiroz (155) all finished fifth.
For Mt. Pleasant, Katana Phangchanthong (120) and Paris Phosy (115) did not place.
Pekin had 10 compete in the tournament, but had no one place. Ayla Banes (120), Reece Brisby (125), Bree Earnest (110), Hannah Kaska (155), Kenadie Long (170), Lila Miller (140), Lexa Nelson (105), Hailey Pedrick (135), Ivory Small (130) and Audra Steigledger (145) all took part.
