Highland, Hillcrest compete in SEISC tournament’s final round

The Southeast Iowa Super Conference held its annual SEISC Conference Tournament on Thursday and Saturday.
Teams from both the North and South division all competed in pool play on Thursday, with the hope of making the tournament final bracket round on Saturday at Southeastern Community College in West Burlington.
Out of the Union area, just two teams found themselves at SCC over the weekend.
Those two were Highland and Hillcrest Academy.
Holy Trinity Catholic, West Burlington, Wapello, Mediapolis, Notre Dame and Central Lee all reached the final as well.
Holy Trinity and West Burlington played for the tournament title, with the Crusaders just edging the Falcons in a three set thriller, 25-14, 22-25, 17-15.
Both the Huskies and Ravens finished second in their respective pools. Both suffered losses in their opening slate at SCC.
Highland competed at Mediapolis on Thursday. The Huskies grabbed wins over Columbus, 21-19, 21-15; WACO, 21-16, 21-13; and New London, 21-15, 21-16 to get an automatic bid to SCC.
The Huskies lone loss came against the hosts, Mediapolis 21-18 and 21-15.
Highland’s tournament run came to an end against Wapello 25-16 and 25-11.
Columbus won two matches at Mediapolis. The Wildcats defeated New London 21-11, 21-18 and then WACO 21-12, 21-8.
As for Hillcrest Academy, it headed down to Fort Madison to compete at Holy Trinity for pool play.
Much like Highland, Hillcrest picked up wins over Louisa-Muscatine, 21-15, 21-11 and Van Buren County, 21-11, 22-20 to secure a second-place pool finish, but fell to Holy Trinity 21-12 and 21-4.
The Ravens eventually bowed out in their opening round at the final against West Burlington 25-7 and 25-7.
Van Buren County picked up one win in pool play, a 21-16, 21-12 win over Louisa-Muscatine.
Winfield-Mt. Union faced off with Central Lee, Lone Tree and West Burlington in pool play. The Wolves picked up one win over Lone Tree 12-21, 21-11 and 15-13, but were defeated by both Central Lee, 21-19, 23-25, 10-15 and West Burlington 21-10, 21-8.
Pekin suffered a pair of losses to Wapello 21-6, 23-21 and Notre Dame 21-9, 21-16.
