MEDIAPOLIS - A scheduled boy/girl doubleheader was reduced to just the boys games Tuesday for the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division basketball contests between Highland and Mediapolis. The girls games were called off and postponed due to concerns with the coronavirus. The varsity girls game was the first to get postponed, then later in the day the girls junior varsity also was nixed.
Highland lost 55-46 as it spotted the Bulldogs a 16-6 first-quarter lead but closed with a 15-13 second-quarter advantage for a 29-21 score at the half. The third quarter was not kind to the Huskies, 18-8, but they outscored Mediapolis 17-8 in the final frame.
Brenton Bonebrake came off the bench to lead the Huskies with team highs in steals with four and points with 13. He was 4-of-8 on field goals, including 3-for-7 on 3-pointers, and 2-for-2 on free throws. Tristan Stokes notched 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Connor Grinstead and Colby Stokes each tallied five points.
Chase Schultz led Highland with 11 rebounds and added nine points.
Highland is 3-7 overall and 3-5 in the North while Mediapolis is 4-9, 4-6.
