WILTON — The Highland softball team will have a funky-looking record this season after the Huskies picked up a rare tie at the Wilton softball tournament this weekend.
On Saturday, Highland had an 0-1-1 day. The Huskies fell to hosting Wilton 8-3 before finishing their game against Calamus-Wheatland tied 4-4.
Highland was cruising against Wilton through the first four innings. The Huskies opened up an early 3-0 lead, and Grace Batcheller was feeling it in the circle, but Wilton’s offense eventually heated up.
Wilton scored once in the fourth inning, six times in the fifth and one in the sixth to steal the victory.
Batcheller and Mackinze Hora each went 2-for-3 with an RBI to colead the Huskies. Herrig was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Once again, the Huskies bursted out of the gate in Game 2. Highland put up four runs in the first inning, and held that advantage until the top of the third.
Calamus-Wheatland collected four runs in the third to tie the game up. Neither team could push across a run from that point forward.
Katelyn Waters went 2-for-3 in the tie. Hora and Herrig each went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Jessica Kraus pitched five innings during the game, giving up four earned runs and striking out seven batters. Grace Prybil threw one shutout inning in relief.
Highland moved to 2-2-1 after the tournament.
