It was a nice run for the Highland and Van Buren County softball teams, but both teams saw their season come to an end in Friday night’s regional semifinals.
No. 8 Louisa-Muscatine 15, Van Buren County 6
The Warriors turned a 9-2 deficit into a much tighter 9-6 ballgame in the fourth inning, but Louisa-Muscatine would score the next seven runs to run away with the win.
Ivy Davidson went yard in the game, finishing 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and one RBI. Ashlynn Huff was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Callie Kracht went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Annabelle Cormier was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Alli Campbell pitched 6.1 innings on the mound, giving up 16 runs (10 earned) to get tagged with the loss.
Van Buren County ended its season 12-12.
No. 7 Twin Cedars 4, Highland 1
The Huskies kept it interesting after a two-hour road trip to Bussey to take on the Sabres.
Starting pitcher Grace Batcheller kept Highland in it early, but the offense took too much time to get going. Down 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Batcheller helped her own cause with an RBI single that scored Sarah Burton, but 2-1 is as close as the Huskies would get.
Twin Cedars would get the run back in the bottom half of the fourth and then tack one on in the sixth.
Batcheller would give up four runs, all unearned, over 5.2 innings. Jessica Kraus came in for the last out in the sixth.
The Huskies had just two hits on the day. Batcheller and Payton Brun both had singles.
Highland finished the year 21-9-1.
