Highland’s Burton named All State

Highland senior Sarah Burton is a state long jump champion, an All-State softball player, and now, a two-time All-State basketball player.

Burton was named to the Iowa Print Sports Writers’ Associations’ Class 1A All-State basketball team this week, her second year in a row making the team. Also for the second year, Burton was named to Class 1A’s second team.

Burton finished her final year of high school girls basketball this winter, and it was another stellar one. She finished Top-25 in all of Class 1A in scoring after putting up 16.2 points per game.

Burton averaged a double-double this year, grabbing 14.2 rebounds per game, which placed her third in Class 1A in boards. She was second in the class in defensive rebounds, averaging 11.5 per contest.

Along with her work on the inside, Burton led Highland with 2.8 assists per game, 3.8 steals per game and 2.5 blocked shots per game. She finished the year seventh in Class 1A in blocks.

Solon senior Callie Levin was named 2023-24 Miss Basketball in the state of Iowa. Levin and the Spartans won the Class 3A state championship.
