WAPELLO — Hillcrest Academy basketball was in action on Tuesday night as the Raven boys and girls clashed with Southeast Iowa Super Conference North opponent Wapello.
Hillcrest grabbed a victory on the boys’ side 49-32, but came up short on the girls 49-40.
To begin the boys’ contest, Hillcrest Academy and Wapello were nearly even. The Ravens held just a two-point lead over the Indian through one period, but they would extend that in the second.
A 13-4 run through eight minutes followed the first and at the break Hillcrest’s lead improved to 23-12.
Wapello stayed right in the rear view. The Indian’s jumped right back into it out of the break, edging the Ravens 14-11 in the third quarter to pull back within single digits, 34-26, heading into the fourth.
However, any momentum that Wapello had was erased in the final frame as Hillcrest went on to outscore the Indians 15-6 to close it out.
Bryce Bailey led the Ravens with 15 points and six rebound in the win. Seth Our tallied 14 points and five assists. Mason Bender followed with 12 points and six boards as well.
The Ravens improve to 7-2 with the win and are currently fourth in the SEISC North at 5-2.
In the girls’ matchup, Hillcrest Academy led Wapello after the first and second quarter.
The Ravens led 14-12 after one and then 22-21 at the half. It was the third and fourth that had major implications.
Wapello posted its best scoring quarter of the evening in the third, notching 17 points to the Ravens 12 to take a 38-34 lead into the fourth.
The Arrows only continued to put a damper on the Ravens scoring, giving up just six points, while dropping in 11 themselves to put a stamp on it.
Claire Withrow paced Hillcrest with 20 points. Malia Yoder finished with seven points and six assists. Delaney Shaw followed with five points and 12 rebounds. Lydia Beachy and Niva Helmuth both ended with four points.
Hillcrest Academy drops to 2-8 on the season and currently graces a SEISC North record of 0-8.
