Hillcrest Academy XC host Early Bird meet
Raven’s place second in boys’ team race, WMU’s Newsom takes second individually

KALONA — Hillcrest Academy hosted its Early Bird cross-country meet on Tuesday night with 10 schools participating.
The Union area's Hillcrest Academy, Winfield-Mt. Union, WACO and Highland all competed in the meet.
As a team, the Hillcrest Academy and Highland boys were the only placers.
The Ravens finished second overall with 39 points, while Highland took third with 77 points.
Cedar Rapids Jefferson was the winner with 21 points.
On the girls' side, Iowa City High took the top seven individual spot for a first-place finish with 15 points.
English Valleys followed with 52 points, Wapello had 85 and Cedar Rapids Jefferson had 90.
Leading the individuals was Winfield-Mt. Union's Kohlby Newsom.
Newsom clocked a time of 19:20.01 for second overall.
Other Wolves to finish were Gabe Hemsworth in sixth with a time of 20:32.53; Bowen Thomson (9th), 21:18.31 and Jacob Nelson (18th), 23:34.62.
For Hillcrest Academy, Micah Gerber took fifth after carding a 20:11.92.
Mason Wilson ran 20:57.97 for eighth. Jesse Blossom clocked 21:19.37 for 10th. Isaac Beachy finished 17th after running a 23:27.26. Jeremiah Danker placed 23rd.
Bradon Hartsock finished 25th and Kyle Neuschwander ran for 30th.
Highland's Jacob Schneider was the highest finisher for the Huskies. Schneider ran 23:52.51.
Chase Hickenbottom ended in 24th. Jack Krotz, Tate Stumpf and Brayden Zywiec went 26th, 27th and 28th in the meet.
Issac Giesmann and Jackson Schneider finished 32nd and 33rd in the meet.
WACO's highest placer was Tristan Luitjens. He took seventh with a time of 20:42.71.
Keiran Luitjens followed for WACO with a 12th-place run. He ran 21:47.01. Deacon Bird rounded out the Warriors with a 22nd overall finish.
For the girls, Marie Yoder ran to a third overall finish after clocking a time of 21:35.43.
Delaney Shaw was a 22nd-place finisher and Brynna O'Rourke placed 27th.
Highland's Siena Stanerson placed 11th with a time of 24:20.08.
Erika Thomann placed 24th for the Huskies as well.
WMU's Afton Wilkerson ran to a 17th-place finish after running a 26:36.61. Maggie Hutton and Karilyn Titus each finished 38th and 39th.
WACO's Justine Lynn placed 24th, followed by Sarah Craun in 32nd and Deedra Graber in 37th.
