Hillcrest and Highland split on the hardwood
Bender leads Raven boys, Burton dominated for Huskies in girls’ game

RIVERSIDE — Highland hosted Hillcrest Academy on Thursday night in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division clash. Both teams took home one win on the night.
In the girls’ game, Highland held off Hillcrest 47-38. The Ravens dominated the boys’ game 65-27.
The Highland girls led 16-9 after one quarter, 30-18 at halftime and 38-25 after three quarters.
Sarah Burton had yet another phenomenal game. She led the team with 20 points, 22 rebounds, seven blocked shots, six steals and four assists.
Mackenzie Davis scored 14 points on the day. Stella Slaymaker scored six. Hailey Brun had four. Kerra Longbine finished with two, and Katie Herrig chipped in one.
Hillcrest’s Malia Yoder and Claire Withrow scored 17 points apiece in the loss. Lydia Beachy and Niva Hellmuth each had two points. Hellmuth and Delaney Shaw coled the team with seven rebounds each.
The Raven boys jumped out to a 38-10 lead by halftime and took a 59-18 advantage into the fourth quarter. Mason Bender and Seth Ours combined for 38 points on the day, as Bender had 20 points and six rebounds, and Ours finished with 18 points and four steals.
Kale Bailey finished with 11 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Ravens.
