Hillcrest, Highland victorious in season openers
Ravens defeat Moravia, Huskies top Iowa Valley and Keota to open season

Hillcrest Academy and Highland girls basketball both kicked off their season last Friday night and both were winners.
The Ravens downed Moravia 58-39, while the Huskies were winners over Iowa Valley and Keota 54-42, 58-53 respectively.
Hillcrest Academy was red-hot out of the gate. The Ravens used some rapid fire shooting in the first quarter to build a 21-6.
The Ravens lead only grew into the second. Hillcrest edged the Mohawks 11-7 in the second quarter to make it 32-13 at the break.
Through the second half, the two teams were dead even at 26-26 as Hillcrest Academy took the win.
The Ravens notched 21 steals as a team along with 10 assists. Moravia won the rebounding game 39-34.
Claire Withrow was feeling it from deep. Withrow connected on six threes on her way to a 24 point night. Malia Yoder added 17 points and 10 rebounds with six steals.
Niva Helmuth finished with eight points, six rebounds and eight steals. Delaney Shaw ended with five points.
As for Highland, the Huskies used a big second half to get by Iowa Valley.
Iowa Valley led Highland at the end of each of the first two quarters, 10-8 after one and 21-20 at the half.
However, the Huskies kicked it up a notch in the second half outscoring the Tigers 18-9 in the third to make it 38-30.
The Huskies continued to tack it on through the fourth, once again edging the Tigers. This time, Highland outscored Iowa Valley 16-12 in the final quarter to put it away.
Kamryn Fink finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds and six assists for Highland. Hailey Brun followed with 12 points and seven rebounds as well as three steals.
Emersyn Schultz had 10 points and five rebounds. Katelyn Thomann and Mackenzie Davis both finished with six points.
Against Keota, Highland faced a 28-22 after one half. However, the Huskies outscored the Eagles 19-10 in the third to pull ahead 41-38.
Keota hung around in the fourth, but Highland once again just topped the Eagles 17-15 to take the five point win.
Kamryn Fink scored 20 points and pulled down a whopping 20 rebounds for Highland. Mackenzie Davis scored 13 points and had eight rebounds. Katie Herrig followed with seven points.
For Keota, Kimberly Clarahan finished with 17 points and eight rebounds. Cameron Haifley scored 10 points and Karley Greiner eight.
