Hillcrest meet runs Monday

KALONA - Hillcrest Academy will be hosting the Hillcrest Invitational cross-country meet Monday, Oct. 5.
The races will take place on the Hillcrest campus and in the adjacent Joetown woods.
'This course is a favorite of many area runners due to the beautiful trail in the woods,” Hillcrest coach Martin Gingerich said.
The competition will be tough with some top-ranked area teams in attendance.
The boys race features Pella and Solon, ranked second and fifth, respectively, in Class 3A.
Danville-New London is currently ranked first in 2A boys and Mid-Prairie is ranked number five.
In the girls race, Mid-Prairie is ranked second in 2A while Solon currently sits at fifth in 3A. Iowa City Regina is ranked third in 1A. Class 4A unranked Iowa City, City High will be competing in the girls races.
The competition begins at 4 p.m. with the 2- mile junior high girls race followed by the junior high boys. Junior varsity follows with the girls varsity starting at 5:40 p.m. and boys varsity at 6:10 p.m.
Hillcrest varsity boys Will Kolck, Collin Miller and Jorge Canchola will be running as will girls Kennedy Roth, Julia Boller, Leah Bontrager, Taryn Leichty and Hannah Chalupa while Madeline Fox will run junior varsity.
All spectators are required to wear masks.
