Hillcrest sweeps Columbus

KALONA - The Hillcrest Academy basketball teams swept Columbus in Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division action on Tuesday night. The girls won their second game of the seasoen 45-30, and the boys won 55-36.
Hillcrest's girls led 20-5 after one quarter, 31-9 at halftime nad 40-9 after three periods, shutting the WIldcats down in the third quarter. Columbus made a fierce comeback attempt in the last eight minutes, outscoring the Ravens 21-5 in the period, but the damage had already been done.
Esther Hughes had a career high 24 points, two assists and six rebounds to lead the Ravens. Yani Gutierrez finished with 19 points, a career-high 21 rebounds, four assists and two steals. Meredith Blossom had two points. Sarena Gerber had seven rebounds, two assists and two stals, and Leah Bontrager had eight rebounds.
Victoria Howell's 11 points paced Columbus. Sera Vela had six points. Olivia Carrier had four points and six rebounds. Libia White scored four points. Taylor Howell had three, and Emma Milder finished with two.
The Hillcrest boys came out swinging, taking the first quarter 25-6. The Ravens led 37-17 at halftime and 48-26 after three quarters. Columbus won the fourth period 10-7.
Eli Ours scored 22 points to lead the Ravens. Kobe Borntrager had 14 points. Aaron Hershberger had eight. Noah Miller scored four, and London Schrock had two.
