Hometown racer Staats breaks through with feature win

COLUMBUS JUNCTION — The second Friday of the CJ Speedway racing season featured several close finishes and a win by Rod Staats of Columbus Junction in the 20-lap feature race of the Mincer Ford IMCA stock car feature.

Staats scored the hard-fought victory ahead of ninth-starting David Brandies and opening-night winner Jason See, who advanced from 12th.

Staats was elated to finally score a win at his hometown track as the victory broke a dry spell of at least five years.

Derrick Stewart’s second feature win on the second race night happened as he moved up from ninth to take the lead on Lap 11 in the 20-lap Stewart & Sons Fuel IMCA Modified class.

Colton Livezey won the Huston Brothers IMCA Sportmod feature over Week 1 winner Shane Paris.

Jake Benischek raced to the checkers of the Midwest Towing IMCA Sport Compacts from a seventh position start.

The CJ Auto Parts/NAPA Store Hobby Stocks, a new division to the CJ Speedway, has already established very entertaining racing. Daniel Wauters scored a win over Aaron Martin.

Warm ups take to the track at 7:15 p.m. with racing to follow Friday.
