It was a strong season for the Highland girls? basketball team and one of their members was named to one of the highest lists they could be.
Junior Kelsey Hora made herself stand out from the rest, helping lead a young team and earning third-team honors in the Iowa Newspaper Association?s All-State list.
Hora, who was also named first-team All-SEISC and All-District, finished sixth in Class 2A with 98 steals (good for second in the conference), while also finishing in the top 15 in assists (99) and in the top 20 in terms of scoring average (16.6 points per game).
Despite standing at 5-foot-3, the Huskie junior averaged five rebounds per game this season.
Hora shot 47.1 percent from the floor this season (sixth in the SEISC North Division, minimum 100 field goal attempts) and shot 72.6 percent from the free-throw line, good for fourth in the conference (min. 50 attempts).
This season, Hora had the top scoring output for any Huskie, notching 31 points in a victory over Lone Tree, while putting together a season-high eight assists and 11 rebounds in the season-opening win against Cardinal.
Highland finished the year 18-6 after starting the year 10-1, and saw their season close with a loss to eventual state qualifier Pekin in the regional semifinals.
The Huskies will lose two seniors who saw significant time for the team, but figure to return Hora and fellow junior Amy Schnoebelen, along with a talented group of sophomores and freshmen.
