Horak, Bontrager lead area runners

KALONA - Evan Horak and Leah Bontrager led area runners Tuesday at Hillcrest Academy's high school cross-country races.

Washington's Horak finished ninth in 18 minutes, 58.68 seconds. Teammate Lance Sobaski ran 19:08.12 to place 14th. Matt Collett was 30th in 22:07 and Justin Simmering was 31st at 22:12.

Lucas Lamparek won the boys race in 18:01.32.

Jonah Egli of WACO was 15th with a time of 19:37 and Tanner Conwell was 35th in 22:54.

Jacob Roling was 40th for Highland in 23:13. Noah Oriano was 51st in 25:46.

WACO and Highland did not have enough for a team.

Brody Barton was 16th for W-MU in 19:41. Asa Gipple was 22nd in 20:38. Lane Scorpil placed 34th in 22:40 and Talon Newton was 39th in 23:06. Anden Gipple ran 25:13 for 50th.

Collin Miller was 44th for Hillcrest in 24:10. Teammate Colby Harris was 45th in 24:12. Jesse Slater was 47th at 24:35 and Tobias Chen was 52nd with a time of 26:19.

In the girls team race, Highland was third as Cedar Rapids Jefferson edged the Huskies by a single point.

Rowan Boulter of Iowa City High won in 20:29.

Hillcrest's Leah Bontrager placed eighth with a time of 23;44 while teammate Serena Gerber was 12th in 24:59. Taryn Leichty and Julia Boller ran in 29:14 to place 32nd and 33rd, respectively. Ainsley Shaw was 44th in 41:14.

Highland's Madison Thomann was ninth in 23:47 and teammate Fiona Mahler was 14th in 25:11. Taylor Sublette was 18th in 26:14 and Alli Brand was 20th in 26:43. Katelyn Waters ran 32:30 for 37th.

Washington's Abby Voss was 15th in 25:43 and Grace Voss was 16th in 25:44. Josie Tanner was 25th with a time of 27:42 and Chloe Telleen was 28th in 28:21. Victoria Hinson was 35th in 29:55.

Avery Maeder of W-MU ran 26:30 to place 19th. Bayla Thomson was 39th in 32:40 and Emma Richardson was 41st in 33:09.

WACO's Grace Conwell was 24th in 27:38. Hannah Dennis was 40th in 32:56. Makenzie Shelman was 43rd in 35:16.

WACO and W-MU did not have enogh for a team score.
