FAIRFIELD — Washington girls basketball put together was of its best shooting nights of the season on Friday night with a 60-30 Southeast Conference win over Fairfield.
The Demons erased an early Trojan lead and pulled away from then on out in large part due to the outside shot. All together the Demons got half of their points from the three ball, connecting on 10 in the conference victory.
A three ball from Adalyn Long gave Washington the open advantage, but Fairfield answered back as Emma Metcalf kicked off a 6-0 run through the next three minutes.
However, the Demons responded themselves with a game changing 16-0 run to the end of the quarter to make it 19-6. Washington got six points through that span from freshman Reagan Miller, who buried two of her four threes in the final three and a half minutes of the first.
To the Trojans’ trepidation, it was a deficit they would never overcome.
Faith Jones pulled Fairfield within 10, 21-11, in the early stages of the second quarter, but that’s as close as they would come.
Washington held Fairfield to just one field goal the rest of the period as the Demon lead grew to 32-13 at the half.
Fairfield went on to score 12 points in the third quarter, seven of which came from Jones, but a pair of deep balls from Kendall Hinrichsen and one from Lauren Hinrichsen helped the Demons score 16 in the frame.
Heading into the fourth quarter, the Demons led 48-25.
In the final period, the Demons outscored the Trojans 12-5.
Adalyn Long led Washington with a game high 18 points on the night. Reagan Miller followed with 14 points. Lauren Hinrichsen scored 11 as well.
For Fairfield, Faith Jones had 13 points. Maddy Martin and Grace Lyon both added four.
