Howard sets another mark for FHS girls

FORT MADISON ? Another meet record went down courtesy of Sydney Howard at the Pen City Relays Tuesday night in Fort Madison.

Howard won the 100-meter dash in 12.33 ? breaking the meet record that had stood since 2004 ? and helped Fairfield to a fourth-place finish in Class A. The Trojans scored 60 points and ended up just one point behind third-place Mount Pleasant.

Howard paired her win in the 100 with another victory in the 200 (26.90) for the only Fairfield victories on the evening.

Jessica Lamb helped the Trojans out on several relays including solid legs on the 4x800 and sprint-medley teams. The 4x800 (10:24) finished third with Hannah Sobaski, Whitney Engle and Sesali Martin while the spring medley (1:58.20) was second with Marisa Repp, Hanna Greiner and Huma Liptak.

Engle and Claudia Sloat ? both freshmen ? also gained points for the Trojans in distance events.

?It was a great night to run and our kids improved in many areas,? said head coach Ron Hunerdosse. ?Some of our younger middle and long distance girls, particularly Whitney Engle and Claudia Sloat are starting to make a move.?

Fairfield will hope to continue to make those moves as it prepares for a trip to Eddyville-Blakesburg Thursday.
