KEOSAUQUA - Nobody who played softball in Class 2A this past summer was more successful with the bat than Van Buren County's Chelsey Huff.
William Penn University realized her abilities. Tuesday she signed a letter of intent to play for the Statesmen.
Iowa Central and Iowa Wesleyan University were also part of her decision of where to continue playing after high school.
'The college is close to home and the team seemed close to each other, almost like a family,” Huff said of the deciding factor in choosing William Penn.
Huff is planning to major in Exercise Science with the plan to find work in athletic training.
Huff batted .566 last season with a .574 on-base percentage and a .660 slugging percentage.
Huff also has been a pitcher for the Warriors and tossed 53 innings last season with opponents batting .201 against her and an earned run average of 2.62. She struck out 53 and walked 13. The Warriors went 9-8.
In 2019 the Warriors were 15-12 and Huff batted .438 with .476 OBP and a .708 SLG. She only struck out eight times in 96 at-bats, hit five home runs and 11 doubles. Her ERA was 2.51 in 108 innings and opponents batted .196. She issued 28 walks and 78 strikeouts.
At William Penn, she will play for head coach Mike Christner, who has an overall record of 628-417 and 275-155 in conference in 20 years at William Penn.
