RIVERSIDE - Highland scored a 39-12 victory over Lynnville-Sully Friday.
'I thought we moved the ball with consistency most of the game,” Highland co-head coach Joe Donovan said. 'We had some hiccups, but for the most part I was pleased as the Lynnville-Sully defense gave us some looks we weren't expecting. I was pleased with the balanced running attack as LS really worked hard on stopping our outside run game, but Cole Adamson and Connor Grinstead did a nice job of running between the tackles.”
Adamson had 203 yards on 23 carries and ran for three scores. Owen Donovan added 80 yards on 12 carries and had one TD rushing and one receiving while Grinstead had 75 yards on 11 carries. He was 4 for 6 passing.
LS runs the triple option on offense, which makes teams play assignment football.
'If you miss an assignment it can be difficult to stop,” Donovan said. 'After the first quarter, our defense settled in and played a good game. We need to work on recognizing certain situations during a game and capitalizing on them. We need to work on our 2-minute offense.”
Zack Lasek had two solo tackles and five assisted while Cael Yeggy had three solo and five assisted. Cole Adamson made five solo stops while Caedon Harbison had a total of five. Zane Arnold snagged two interceptions and recovered a fumble.
'I felt as though we controlled the game from the start,” Donovan said. 'I knew L-S would be ready for us, having some good athletes and coaches despite their record (0-3). It was 24-12 at half then we really controlled things the second half.”
Highland is 3-0 and hosts Lisbon Friday for Homecoming.
