Huskies eke out victory in 9 innings

Highland's nine-inning road softball victory highlighted games the Union coverage area Thursday and Friday.
Demons downed
BURLINGTON - In a Southeast Conference doubleheader Thursday, Washington (3-8) lost 11-4 and 6-2 to the Grayhounds (9-3).
Kaitlyn Mitchell had two of the Demon's three hits in the 11-4 loss and Anna Venenga had the other. Alexa Mitchell gave up 15 hits and four walks in the loss.
Cara Linnenkamp gave up five hits and an earned run in the 6-2 loss with four strikeouts. Linnenkamp, Alexa Mitchell, ava Turner and Halle Leyden had one hit apiece. turner batted in both runs.
Huskies target Arrows
WAPELLO - Highland (4-4) stayed alive with a run in the seventh to tie this road North game then won with a run in the top of the ninth for a 6-5 win at Wapello (7-4) Thursday.
Grace Batchellor went six innings with nine hits, five runs (four earned), two walks and five strikeouts while Jessica Kraus threw three innings with five hits, no walks and four strikeouts to get the win.
Abbi Stransky and Dani Laughlin each had a double and two runs batted in. Kayla Cerny and Payton Brun had two hits apiece.
Pekin blanks Hillcrest
Packwood - The Panthers shut out the visiting Ravens 8-0 Thursday in a Southeat Iowa Super Conference North Division game.
Allison Bainbridge went 3-for-4 with a triple while Pekin teammates Emilee Linder and Taylor Parmenter each had a double and a single. Kylee Davis got the win with a one-hitter, eight strikeouts and three walks.
Mia Graber had the only Ravens hit while Leah Bontrager gave up eight hits and three earned runs with two strikeouts in the loss.
Crusaders top Hillcrest
Ft. Madison - Sarah Miller had two hits for Hillcrest at Holy Trinity Friday in an 11-1 SEISC nondivisional loss. Bontrager gave up 10 hits and three walks but struck out seven.
Mid-Prairie loses 2
The Golden Hawks lost two games last week to River Valley Conference opponents, dropping a 15-5 decision to Durant and a 7-3 defeat at Iowa City Regina to fall to a record of 0-4.
