The 2022 Highland fall sports season saw a group of young Huskies take the varsity reigns in various sports, but Highland didn’t have much success in the win column when it came to the gridiron.
The Highland football team will try to improve in 2023 after an 0-8 season. The return of junior quarterback Sage Hartley-Norman should help that. He threw for 550 yards and six touchdowns last year, and ran for a team-high 490 yards and four scores. Luke Guseman ran for 239 yards.
It might be the year of the Huskies in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North volleyball picture. Highland went 13-15 overall and 6-3 in conference play last season, and the Huskies bring back a boat load of talent.
Senior Sarah Burton comes into the new year after collecting 203 kills last season. Junior Adeline Krotz finished with 101. The two were also one-two in digs, with 258 digs and 156 digs respectively.
Senior Grace Prybil comes into the new year as the leading returning setter, giving out 192 assists last year.
The Highland cross-country teams were low on numbers last year. The Huskies were 12th in the SEISC boys race, and the girls did not score.
