Huskies in playoffs

WACO and Mid-Prairie each ended their high school football season with a victory Friday while Highland kept its season alive with a playoff berth.
Highland 33, Belle Plaine 8
RIVERSIDE – A victory in this Class A District 6 game gave the Huskies a 7-2 overall record, 5-1 district and put them in the playoffs against Durant, a team they lost to 14-0 earlier in the year.
Brody Burton stopped the first drive of the visitors with an interception, which led to the first of three Trey Lasek touchdowns.
'We executed our game plan, stopped their running back and our seniors played fantastic,” Highland coach Scott Morel said.
Lasek ended up with 177 yards rushing on 14 attempts and was 6 of 11 passing for 98 yards and a TD to Cole Adamson. Lasek also caught a TD pass from Brady Hahn, who had 118 yards rushing on 12 carries.
WACO, 55, Tri-County 8
WAYLAND – The Warriors won the 8-player District 4 game with 42 points in the first quarter.
'It was a great way to end the season,” WACO coach Chad Edeker said. 'We played well and got a lot of kids playing time. We had five seniors dress and all five were big parts of the game.”
Matthew Leichty did the kicking and kicked two points after touchdown. Kade McKinney scored a touchdown on a 7-yard run and kicked a PAT. Nolan Eubanks kicked two PATs and had one carry for 16 yards. Hunter Donaldson had seven carries for 51 yards and two touchdowns. Colton Horak had seven carries for 219 yards and four TDs.
The Warriors' defense was a brick wall, allowing just 62 yards (27 passing and 35 rushing) in the game. Elijah McGowan led the defense with five tackles. Eubanks had a fumble recovery and John Rice had two.
WACO did not attempt a pass in the game.
The Warriors end the season with a 6-3 record, 5-3 in the district.
Mid-Prairie 48, Albia 20
WELLMAN – The Golden Hawks won their last two games of the year to finish 3-2 in Class 2A District 6 and 3-6 overall.
Justin Schwartz ground out 199 yards on 34 carries and Grant Boyse added 109 on nine attempts. Boys caught two passes for 115 yards, including a 73-yard TD. Tom Butters snagged two catches for 44 yards.
Wapello 49, Columbus 7
COLUMBUS JUNCTION – This Class 1A District 5 loss left the Wildcats with a 0-9 record.
Jose Cerezo led Columbus with 13 tackles while Chance Colby had 11.5 and Will Schwab had 10.
