RIVERSIDE — The Highland baseball team gave it all they had in a furious sixth-inning rally on Saturday night, but the Huskies were done in by a couple late Lynnville-Sully runs in a 10-8 loss.
Highland had rallied back from an 8-3 deficit by scoring five in the bottom of the sixth. Trevor McFarland’s clutch RBI double to left field had the Huskies tied 8-8.
Lynnville-Sully, however, has just enough left in the tank. The Hawks wiggled out of more trouble in the sixth and put up a pair of runs in the seventh. Highland’s final at-bat went quietly and the Huskies were eliminated.
McFarland finished the game 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Brenton Bonebrake was 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Connor Grinstead was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Ethan Paisley knocked one run in, and Luke Miller scored twice.
Highland finished the season 22-4. It was the Huskies’ best record since 2008. The Huskies had to say goodbye to a large group of seniors. Seven of the Huskies’ 11 players from Saturday were playing in their last high school game.
