RIVERSIDE - Highland won its high school football game Friday over the visitors from Cardinal 27-20.
'I thought from the start of the game we were able to control the line of scrimmage and establish our run game,” Highland co-head coach Joe Donovan said. 'I definitely thought we controlled the game until the last 5 minutes of the game where Cardinal took advantage of our miscues.”
Highland's ground game churned out over 100 yards each from three different backs.
'Being able to run the football allowed us to control the tempo,” Donovan said. 'If not for the three fumbles, I thought we could have put up a lot more points as they really didn't have an answer for our run game.”
Cole Adamson had 14 carries 104 yards while Owen Donovan produced 125 yards on 13 carries and two TDs. Connor Grinstead racked up 166 yards on nine carries and a score.
Mason McFarland's offense resulted in two receptions for 40 yards and a TD. Adamson led the defense with 11.5 tackles. Caeden Harbison had 7.5 tackles.
'I thought Mason McFarland had a great game on defense, shutting down their best player and having a spectacular interception in the end zone,” Donovan said. 'I thought our offensive line really played much better as they really executed well.”
Cardinal statistics were not made available.
