After being postponed on Thursday, it seemed as if Lone Tree and Highland?s district semifinal would never be finished.
The Lions and Huskies took their game to extra innings on Friday night, playing 11 frames as they duked it out for a chance at the district finals.
The big hit of the game came in the top of the 11th inning, as Jovonte Squiers knocked in a two-run single, putting Lone Tree on top 6-3, before closing out the Huskies, ending their season.
Highland finished the season at 17-9, as they enter the offseason with nine seniors set to leave the squad.
Things were scoreless for both teams through the first four innings of the game, until Highland broke things open in the fifth inning.
Kory Schnoebelen opened up the scoring with a two-run homerun for Highland, which was followed by a solo homerun by Spencer Wieland.
The lead would hold for the Huskies through a two-run sixth for Lone Tree, but an error pushed it to a tied game in the top of the seventh.
Highland put its first two runners on base to start the bottom of the seventh, but Lone Tree?s Erik Murry struck out the side to end the threat, and the game continued.
A throwing error put Lone Tree on top in the 11th, followed by Squiers driving in two runs with his single.
Highland couldn?t generate enough offense in the bottom of the frame and saw their season end on Friday night.
Aside from Schoebelen and Wieland?s homeruns, Lane Welsh and Ben Bean each had hits for the Huskies, as they could only muster four in 11 innings.
Lone Tree went on to Saturday?s district finals and defeated Pekin 3-1, advancing to the sub-state game against undefeated Van Buren on Tuesday.
