A big win on Tuesday evening was another notch in the impressive Highland soccer season so far this season.
The Huskies have jumped out to a 5-3 record this season, most recently defeating Central Lee 6-0, led by senior Bryan Garcia?s four goals.
Senior Jesse Wollrab had two goals and three assists in the game, while sophomore Patrick Wood made three saves in a shutout effort.
The Huskies? 5-3 record puts them second in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference, behind Iowa Mennonite (3-1), but the Huskies fell to IMS earlier this season, 4-3, in penalty kicks.
Garcia?s four-goal game marked the fourth time he has picked up four goals in a game this season, and he currently stands in second in the state with 18 goals, behind Sioux City West?s Antonio Hernandez, who has 20 goals in 11 games.
Joining Garcia with an impressive start to the season is Wollrab (8 goals, 8 assists) and senior Kory Schnoebelen (3 goals, 6 assists).
Schnoebelen and Wood have split time in goal this season, with both posting similar numbers on the year.
Schnoebelen has a goals-against average of 1.8 per game, and has made 27 saves in 310 recorded minutes, while Wood has allowed an average of 2.3 goals per game, and has made 29 saves in 350 minutes.
With the season halfway done (sub-state begins on May 26), the Huskies will look to carry the early momentum they?ve gained and translate it into success the rest of the way.
Highland will face a test on Thursday as they take on Columbus, at Columbus Junction.
The teams have yet to meet this season, and will play again on May 12.
