Huskies’ wrestlers go 1-2 at Iowa Valley

Highland High School's wrestling team went 1-2 Tuesday night at Iowa Valley.
The Huskies lost to Interstate 35 74-5, lost to Iowa Valley 39-25 and defeated Lynville-Sully 42-24.
Brady Hahn, wrestling at 145 pounds, scored the only points for the Huskies against Interstate 35 when he recorded a technical fall of 17-2 in 3 minutes, 1 second.
Against Iowa Valley, Yahir Jimenez won by fall in 31 seconds at 106 pounds for Highland. Hahn got a pin in 2:26. Jordan Sosa scored a 14-8 decision at 160. Dan Burton notched a major decsion of 11-1 at 170. Cael yeggy won by fall in 4:51 at 182.
In the Huskies' win, only two matches were wrestled and the rest forfeited by one team or the other and in three weights, there was a double forfeit. Yeggy got a win with a pin in 1:07.
Highland wrestles today at WACO.
Highland 54, Winfield-Mt. Union 21
The Highland girls basketball team picked up a home win Tuesday against Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division foe W-MU.
'The intensity was better, but we still can't take plays off,” Highland coach Jody Fink said. 'It was a very physical game, and we need to accept and play through that. Mentally we need to get stronger and play through the adversity and tough times. We did a good job defensively and rebounding, but always, there is room for improvement. The girls played hard and I am very proud of them. They left it out there on the floor.”
Highland outscored the visitors 9-0 in the third quarter.
Alyssa Brase had a team-high seven rebounds. Highland teammate Kylie Wood led with five assists and Brase had four. Haley Sweeting had three steals and six points. Aly Stokes had four blocks.
Highland (5-2, 4-1) plays at Columbus Friday.
Danville 66, WACO 62
This SEISC South Division game in Danville Tuesday saw a blowout turn into a close game.
'Danville led by 20 with 1 minute, 30 seconds left in the third quarter,” WACO coach Drew Kissell said. 'Our comeback came up a little short.”
Nik Coble was two blocks short of a triple double for the Warriors. He had 19 points, 21 rebounds and eight blocks.
Colton Horak had 14 points, eight assists and seven steals while Gabe Reichenbach had 15 points and seven rebounds.
WACO is 4-2 and plays at Holy Trinity Friday.
