IGHSAU releases 2025 regional volleyball pairings
Mid-Prairie gets top seed in 3A-7, four Union teams in 1A-2

Union area volleyball teams learned their postseason fates Thursday. The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released the regional pairings for the 2025 state tournament Thursday.
Regional play begins Oct. 20 following the conclusion of the regular season. The winner of each region in classes 1A-5A will advance to the state tournament Nov. 3-6. at Xtream Arena in Coralville.
Here’s a look at the pairings for every Union area team.
Class 4A
Mount Pleasant will host Southeast Conference foe Keokuk on Oct. 21 in the first round of Class 4A Region 1. The Panthers beat the Chiefs 3-0 in the regular season.
Should Mount Pleasant advance it will face the top seed No. 1 team in Class 4A Clear Creek-Amana. The Clippers have lost just two matches all season.
Class 3A
No. 7 Mid-Prairie earned the top seed in Class 3A Region 7. The Golden Hawks reached the 3A state quarterfinals last season and lost to eventual champion Mount Vernon.
The Golden Hawks will host Davis County on Oct. 21 in the first round of this season’s tournament. Should they advance they could face another Union area side in Fairfield. The Trojans will travel to West Liberty to take on the Titans.
Washington was also drawn into Class 3A-7. The Demons will host Benton at 7 p.m. Oct. 21. If Washington advances it will play the winner between Center Point-Urbana and Vinton-Shellsburg.
Class 2A
Columbus was the lone Union area team drawn into Class 2A Region 1. The Wildcats will host Louisa-Muscatine on Oct. 20.
The Wildcats and Falcons split a pair of matches this season. Louisa-Muscatine logged a 2-1 win on Aug. 25 and Columbus won 3-1 on Sept. 9. If Columbus wins the rubber match, it will travel to face Bellevue on Oct. 22.
Van Buren County earned a bye into the quarterfinals of the Class 2A Region 8 bracket. The Warriors will host West Burlington on Oct. 22. VBC beat the Falcons in five sets during the regular season and 2-1 in Southeast Iowa Super Conference pool play.
If the Warriors take down the Falcons yet again, they will face the winner between Regina Catholic and either Cardinal or Danville. The Comets will take on the Bears on Oct. 20 with the winner taking on the Regals in the quarterfinals Oct. 22.
Class 1A
New London, Pekin WACO and Winfield-Mt Union were all drawn into Class 1A Region 2. The Wolves and Panthers will play each other in the first round Oct. 20 at Winfield-Mt Union.
W-MU and Pekin squared off Sept. 25, which ended in a 3-1 Wolves victory. The winner of the rematch will play top seed Holy Trinity Catholic in the quarterfinals.
WACO and New London will both be on the road for their first round matches. The Warriors will take on Burlington Notre Dame while the Tigers face Wapello. Should both teams win, they would play each other in the second round Oct. 22 at Burlington Notre Dame High School.
Highland, Hillcrest Academy and Keota will play in Class 1A Region 3. The Huskies will face HLV-TC on the road in the first round. Hillcrest will host BGM, while Keota has a road match against English Valleys. All matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 20.
If the Ravens come away with the victory they will face North Tama in the quarterfinals. Should Highland win its opening game it will play the winner between North Mahaska and Twin Cedars. Keota would play Cedar Ridge Christian if it knocks off English Valleys.
