IMS used a strong defensive second quarter to pull away from HLV in Thursday?s Class 1A District 7 quarterfinal inside Hillcrest Union, and it went on to blow out the Warriors 85-48.
Both teams were hot early. IMS senior Peyton Thompson poured in four 3-pointers and 16 points in the first quarter to help his team to a 26-18 lead after eight minutes of play. But IMS buckled down defensively in the second quarter and out-scored the Warriors 17-4 in the period to take a 43-22 lead into halftime.
?It?s always good to get the first tournament game under your belt, and I thought we settled in after the first quarter and played well at both ends,? IMS head coach Dwight Gingerich said.
Thompson finished with seven 3-pointers and a game-high 25 points. He also had seven assists and three steals. Senior Cameron Gingerich added 17 points and a team-high eight rebounds, and senior Joel Shetler had 10 points and seven boards. Freshman Eli Gingerich knocked down three 3-pointers for nine points, and junior Reggie Hostetler had eight points and six assists.
Senior Joe Stiefel scored 14 points to lead HLV, which ended its season with a record of 6-17.
IMS (20-2) will host BGM (17-6) in a district semifinal on Tuesday night.
