IMS boys 1 step closer to state

IMS clicked on all cylinders Tuesday, Feb. 21, in a Class 1A District Semifinal win over Springville, defeating the Orioles 62-41.

IMS advances to the District Final Thursday at Mid-Prairie High School, where they will face Lisbon, 61-57 victors over Lone Tree.

IMS jumped out to a 16-11 lead after one quarter and then went on a 21-8 run, punctuated by a buzzer-beating 3 by Caleb Gingerich, to lead Springville 37-19 at the half.

Cole Yoder beat the buzzer one period later to give IMS the lead at 50-28 entering the final frame.

Nick Yutzy was back in the lineup and scored all 14 of his points in the first half. Cole Ours tallied 12 points, including two treys and was 6-6 from the line.

Yoder also scored 12 points. Reggie Borntrager and Mitchell Schmieder each scored eight points, Gingerich had three, Adrian Gonzales and Finny Lackender had two points apiece, and Cody Jones finished with one free throw.

Yoder and Schmieder had six and five rebounds respectively. Yutzy had four steals and three assists.

Ours had four assists and three steals, and Gingerich had three assists.

Coach Dwight Gingerich said, ?it was good to have everyone back and get our lineup back on the court.

?We played hard at the defensive end, and moved the ball well offensively to get good shots.

?And it always helps when the shots go down. I thought our intensity was good and hopefully we can keep building.?

IMS is now 17-6 on the season. Game time is 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at Mid-Prairie.
