KALONA - It was a great day to be on the golf course Monday with 75 degrees, sunny and a light breeze. Mid-Prairie and Iowa Mennonite School's boys each had a meet on the Kalona Golf Course. Golfers took advantage of the great weather and a greener course and posted good scores.
IMS played against Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division rival Lone Tree and all three IMS boys shot lower that LT's best.
Trevor Leyden was the medalist with a 40. London Schrock carded a 43 and Cole Roth a 56. LT had two boys shoot a 57.
Kennedy Roth shot a 68 for IMS' girls.
Mid-Prairie beat River Valley Conference rival Tipton 173-186 to post their fourth dual meet victory of the season.
The Hawks were led by meet medalist Noah Schlabaugh's steady 39. He posted six pars and three bogeys. It is Schlabaugh's fourth meet medalist honors of the season.
Teammate Monte Slabaugh became the third Golden Hawk to earn runner-up medalist this season carding a 43. His round was highlighted by a birdie 3 on the par-4 third hole.
Ryan Smit overcame two balls hit out of bounds to shoot a respectable 44. Smit also birdied the par-4 third hole.
Rounding out the scoring for Mid-Prairie was Chaz Patterson with a 47.
'I am proud of how the guys have adapted to the changes the course has made in the last week,” MP coach Kelby Bender said. 'The greens have firmed up and have been mowed a few times which means they are getting faster. They did a good job of adjusting to the speed with their play around the greens and putting.”
