IMS split a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division softball doubleheader with host Louisa-Muscatine on Monday night. IMS won the opening game 2-0, but the Falcons won the nightcap 12-7.
IMS got on the board early in the opening game when junior Jacayla Litwiller?s sacrifice fly brought sophomore Demi Brezina home to score in the first inning. Senior Keilah Brokaw added a second run in the inning when she scored on a wild pitch.
That was all the help IMS pitcher Laura Hochstetler needed, as she allowed just two hits and struck out 15 Louisa-Muscatine batters in the victory.
Louisa-Muscatine took a 2-0 lead after one inning in the second game, but IMS answered with three runs in the top of the second inning. After tying the game in the bottom of the third, the Falcons scored seven runs in the third to take a 10-3 lead. IMS chipped away at the lead with two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to make it 10-7, but Louisa-Muscatine added two more runs to take a 12-7 win.
Hochstetler and senior Naomi Miller both had a pair of hits and scored a pair of runs for IMS (4-5, 4-5 SEISC North). Brezina had two hits and scored a run, and sophomore McKayla Brush also had a pair of hits. Junior Casey Perez had a double and two RBIs in the second game.
Brokaw and Perez both made strong pitching debuts, limiting the Louisa-Muscatine batters for the majority of the game, outside of the third inning.
