IMS, WACO end volleyball seasons

The volleyball season ended for a pair of area teams on Tuesday night.

WACO traveled to face Burlington, Notre Dame for a second-round regional match, and despite claiming a game, fell 3-1, ending the Warriors season.

Burlington claimed the first set with a 25-21 victory, but the Warriors responded with a 25-23 second-set victory.

After that, Notre Dame went 25-20, 25-21 to claim the match.

WACO was led by junior Mayme Hinh?s eight kills on the night, while Cierra McArtor had six kills.

Junior Halle Kissell finished the night with a team-high 18 assists in the contest, while Hinh had a team-high 12 digs and McArtor had 11 digs.

WACO?s season ends with a 9-19 record, and they will lose four seniors to graduation.

Iowa Mennonite traveled to Springville for its second-round regional game, but was swept in the contest, 3-0 (25-17,25-22, 25-13), to end the year.

?I am very proud of our team,? IMS volleyball head coach Shannon Miller said. ?We executed our game plan against a ranked opponent and made them work for the win. Unfortunately, we had some unforced errors at inopportune times. This prevented us from pushing them even harder.?

Senior Natalie Graber finished with a team-high 10 kills in the match, while junior Alijah Beatty had 18 assists and five digs.

Sophomores Avery Blauvelt and Rachel Miller finished with a team-high seven digs in the match.

IMS went 13-19 on the season and will lose four seniors from this year?s team to graduation.
