IMS wins its home tournament
IMS won its home softball tournament on Saturday, defeating Central Lee 4-1 in the semifinals and before blowing out WACO 13-1 in five innings in the championship game.

IMS won its home softball tournament on Saturday, defeating Central Lee 4-1 in the semifinals and before blowing out WACO 13-1 in five innings in the championship game.
IMS jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead after two innings of the semifinal game against Central Lee. Junior Jacayla Litwiller hit a sacrifice fly to bring home senor Naomi Miller to score the first run of the game, and then junior Casey Perez made it 2-0 with an RBI single. Sophomore Demi Brezina and Litwiller had RBI hits in the second inning.
Brezina went 3-for-3 and drove in a run to lead IMS, and Perez was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Litwiller had a hit and drove in two runs, and Miller was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Senior Keilah Brokaw and sophomore Hannah Miller also had hits for IMS.
Meanwhile, IMS senior Laura Hochstetler limited the Hawks to just one run on eight hits in seven innings. She struck out five batters and walked one.
IMS led WACO 3-1 after four innings of the championship when the bats came alive for the home team in the fifth inning. IMS scored 10 runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by Brokaw?s two-run home run.
Brokaw went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs, and Hochstetler was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Miller went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Brezina went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and three runs. Perez was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Litwiller went 2-for-4 with two doubles. Sophomore McKayla Brush went 2-for-4, while Miller and sophomore Stasia Majerick both added hits.
Hochstetler limited the Warriors to one run on four hits in five innings. She struck out two batters and did not issue a walk.
IMS (10-10) hosts Columbus for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division game tonight.
