Early walks helped doom the Demons on Tuesday night.
The Washington baseball team led the game off by walking the first three Oskaloosa batters, leading to a seven-run first inning for the Indians.
The Indians held Washington in check after that point, as they cruised to a 14-3 victory in six innings.
?We ended up with seven hits in six innings,? Washington baseball head coach Nathan Miller said. ?We did some better things tonight, when you look back to last Wednesday against Highland. We had better quality aggressiveness at the plate, and looking at the wider spectrum, we did a better job tonight than where we were at.?
After the big inning came to pass, the Demon defense clamped down, not allowing another run until the third inning.
After giving up two more runs in the fourth, the Demons got their own bats going.
A leadoff single from Ryan Loy in the bottom of the frame, followed by a Blake Weidman walk and a Tanner Renoux single helped the Demons put up a three-run spot in the inning, with RBIs coming from Renoux, Dakota Kron and Zach Londberg.
The Indians responded with two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings, helping end the game early.
?That was one of the positive highlights that I brought up to the kids,? Miller said. ?They stuck with their aggressiveness at the plate, and it had been a while since we have had a multi-hit inning with multiple runs. We had some great swings and it was good to see, and I was pleased with our efforts on the offensive side.?
The loss puts Washington at 5-16 on the year after falling in their past eight contests.
The last Washington victories came on a home sweep of conference foe Fort Madison on June 18.
Kron led the Demons offensively in the game with a pair of singles, as Washington managed six hits in the contest.
Washington will look to rebound in a conference doubleheader against Keokuk on Wednesday night.
After Wednesday, the Demons will travel to Centerville for a nonconference doubleheader.
Both sets of contests are set for a 5:30 first pitch.
