WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. — The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team played four games at Williams Baptist University over a two-day stretch on Thursday and Friday. Day 1 came with a pair of victories, but the Tigers suffered two losses on Day 2.
On Thursday, Iowa Wesleyan came away with two one-run victories. The Tigers defeated the Eagles 3-2 in Game 1, and 9-8 in Game 2.
It was a tense day for Tiger relief pitching. Iowa Wesleyan had to sweat it out on Williams Baptist’s final at-bat in both games. The Eagles stranded a runner on first base to end the first game, and finished Game 2 with runners on first and second.
Iowa Wesleyan collected just four hits in the Game 1 victory. C Cordero went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs to lead the way.
Javier Rivera was the winning pitcher in Game 1, giving up one earned run over four innings. Carter Fletcher earned the save.
The Tigers had eight hits in Game 2. Gabriel Hernandez led the squad at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBIs. Cordero and Carlos Vincente each had two hits and an RBI.
Luis Ayesa earned the victory on the mound in Game 2, giving up five earned runs over six innings. Brandon Devillier picked up a save.
In Game 3, on Friday, Iowa Wesleyan fell 10-7. In Game 4, a 7-run Eagle first led to a 22-12 William Baptist win.
The Tigers rallied back from a 6-0 deficit in Game 3, eventually cutting the lead to 7-6 when Riley Rankin blasted a grand slam to right field. He finished the day 1-for-2 with four RBIs.
Ian Clements took the loss in Game 3, giving up five earned runs over three innings.
Rankin had two RBIs in Game 4, as did Max Wyninger and Froymer Ortega. Joe Morrison gave up 10 earned runs over two innings to get tagged with the loss.
The Tigers are currently 7-17 on the season. They will travel down to St. Louis, Missouri, to take on Harris-Stowe State University in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.
