MT. PLEASANT — The 2022 college football season may be closer than it appears. As the calendar turns to August, the 2022 campaign peeks its head out the door.
Last month, the Iowa Wesleyan football team released its 2022 schedule, and fans in Mt. Pleasant will get plenty of opportunities to see the Tigers play this year.
The Tigers are scheduled to open play on Aug. 27 in Mt. Pleasant. The opening-day game against Tabor College is one of five scheduled home games this season.
It will be Iowa Wesleyan’s first meeting with Tabor. The Blue Jays went 3-8 last season.
The Tigers will follow that game up with two-straight nonconference road games, both in Missouri and both against familiar foes.
Iowa Wesleyan travels to Missouri Baptist University on Sept. 3, hoping to avenge a 31-7 loss from last season. The Tigers will then take on Westminster College, a former conference foe that Wesleyan split with in the shortened spring season in 2021.
The Tigers will end non-conference play with a home game against Finlandia University, another new foe. The North Star Athletic Association schedule begins one week later.
Iowa Wesleyan will begin North Star play on Sept. 24 at Dakota State University. The Tigers fell 53-15 at Dakota State last season.
Iowa Wesleyan won two games in 2021. The Tigers will play one of those teams in 2022, as Presentation College hosts the Tigers on Oct. 22. Iowa Wesleyan defeated Presentation 21-10 last season.
The Tigers’ other win came in dominating fashion, when they dumped Crown College 69-28 on homecoming. Iowa Wesleyan will not play Crown this fall.
The Tigers instead will take on Mayville State University for homecoming week. Iowa Wesleyan will look to avenge a 42-14 loss from last season when they host Mayville on Oct. 1.
Currently all home games on the schedule are set in Mt. Pleasant. In the 2021 season, the Tigers played three of their six home games at Bracewell Stadium in Burlington, but school representatives say the plan for now is to play all five in Mt. Pleasant.
