DES MOINES — After a hot-shooting second half pressed the Iowa Wesleyan men’s basketball team past Waldorf University on Wednesday, the Tigers hoped they could keep it up in their first road game. Unfortunately, there was a lid on the Grand View University rims.
The Tigers went cold in their second game of the season, falling to the hosting Vikings, 77-60.
Iowa Wesleyan jumped out to an early 8-2 lead, helped out by a pair of 3-pointers by Francis Okwuosah and Kaleb Cresswell in the opening three minutes, but the Tigers would hit just two more outside shots in the half and four more in the rest of the game.
Grand View battled back to take a lead a few minutes later. The Vikings led 34-26 at the break, and led by as much as 19 points in the second half.
The Tigers shot just 31.3 percent on the night, and hit just 22.2 percent of their shots from 3-point land.
Cresswell scored 14 points to lead Iowa Wesleyan in the loss. Joey Brown scored 12 points. Kolby Williams and Chris Seymore scored nine apiece.
Alex Dentlinger finished the game with seven points. Victor Munoz scored four. Okwuosah ended the night with three points and seven rebounds, and Jett Tjaden scored two.
Iowa Wesleyan is now 1-1 on the year. The Tigers will host Mount Mercy on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
