BURLINGTON — The 2021 Iowa Wesleyan soccer regular season ended on Sunday, although the women’s team still has work to do in next week’s conference tournament.
In the final schedule games of the year, the Tiger women were downed 6-2 against Viterbo University. The Tiger men lost 3-0.
The women’s team trailed 3-0 before Iowa Wesleyan’s Desire’ Adams took a pass from Melissa Casana and sent in the first Tiger goal of the day. At halftime, the Tiger women trailed 3-0.
Adams scored a second goal in the 51st minute, scoring unassisted to cut the Viterbo lead to 3-2. The V-Hawks, however, would score the final three goals of the game.
Cheleena Squib was in net for the Tiger women. She saved seven shots on the day.
The Tiger women were coming off a 7-1 win over Lincoln Christian University two days prior. In that game, five different Tigers scored goals, including Giovana Pedrassani, who scored two.
The Tiger men couldn’t get off the ground against a Viterbo team that came into the match unbeaten on the year. The V-Hawks scored all three of their goals in the first half.
Iowa Wesleyan’s Carlos Mateo had five shots on goal in the loss. Goalkeeper Alvaro Morera saved eight shots.
The Tiger men ended their season 2-14. The women (5-10-1) will travel to Lawrenceville, Ga., for the Continental Athletic Conference championships on Nov. 12.
