MT. PLEASANT — The Iowa Wesleyan softball team took on a familiar foe on Monday, facing former St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Eureka College. The Tigers split, falling 5-3 in Game 1 before blasting the Red Devils 10-0 in Game 2.
The Tigers blew a late lead in the opener. Iowa Wesleyan led 3-1 heading into the final inning, but Eureka capitalized on some shaky Tiger defense in the seventh to score four runs and steal the win.
Four Iowa Wesleyan players collected multiple hits in the loss. Alexis Davis went 3-for-3. Haiden Molter was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Kara Krieger was 3-for-5 with an RBI, and Nicole Shirrell went 2-for-4.
Molter was tagged with the loss, giving up five earned runs on seven hits and three walks through six innings.
The Tigers rolled in Game 2. They put up two runs in the first inning, three in the third and six in the fourth.
Ivy Geerdes went 2-for-2 with three RBIs to lead the Tigers in Game 2. Julia Hill, Shirrell and Kylie Topliff all had two RBIs, and Abby Dameron pitched a four-hit shut out.
The Tiger women are now 4-21 on the season.
