Iowa Wesleyan softball splits with Greenville

MT. PLEASANT — In its first home doubleheader of the year, the Iowa Wesleyan softball team went 1-1, splitting a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference double-dip with Greenville University.
The Tigers lost a late lead in Game 1, and fell 6-3. They bounced back in Game 2 to win 3-1.
Trailing 2-0 in the third inning, Iowa Wesleyan rallied back to tie it at 2-2, and then take a 3-2 advantage in the bottom of the fourth. Greenville scored the final four runs of the game, plating two in the fifth and two in the seventh.
Iowa Wesleyan had just five hits in the Game 1 loss. Kayla Ford, Kara Krieger and Ashley Pfadenhauer each had one RBI.
Morgan Christner pitched all seven innings in Game 1, giving up six runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk, while striking out nine.
Game 2 was tied at 1-1 heading into the bottom of the third, but Iowa Wesleyan put up two runs, one on an RBI fielder’s choice by Breanna Mettler, and another on an RBI single by Pfadenhauer.
Abby Dameron had a win in the circle in Game 2. She gave up just one earned run on two hits and four walks, while striking out four batters over five innings. Christner came in for two shutout innings to close it out.
