It was a busy weekend for Iowa Wesleyan University athletics. The Tigers competed in the Continental Athletic Conference’s ‘CAC Clash’ in basketball, a marquee women’s wrestling triangular and a pair of track meets.
The Tiger basketball teams had a monster day in Lincoln, Illinois, as both the women’s and men’s team swept the festivities at the CAC Clash.
The Tiger women rolled to a pair of blowout victories. Iowa Wesleyan smashed Bacone College 85-43, and the dumped Northern New Mexico College 69-44 to improve their conference record to 6-0.
Kyla Moore went off for 25 points against Bacone and 24 points and 12 rebounds against Northern New Mexico to lead the Tigers. Britany West had 23 against Bacone.
The Tiger men smashed Bacone College 100-71. Dylan Hurley led the way with 15 points. The Tigers beat Northern New Mexico College 77-68 behind a 20-point outing from Joey Brown.
Iowa Wesleyan had a men’s home game on Monday night. The Tigers fell 68-61 against Saint Ambrose University despite a 21-point performance by Marvin Bateman.
The women’s wrestling team is now ranked No. 16 in the NAIA National poll, and they might be moving up even higher after this weekend. The Tigers fell to No. 5 Augsburg University 29-15, but defeated No. 13 University of Jamestown 28-5.
Fourth-ranked Alaina Sunlin (101 pounds) had two wins by forfeit over the weekend. No. 8 Joanna Vanderwood (130) picked up a pair of pins, as did No. 20 Destiny Campbell (136).
The Tiger track teams competed ab both Saint Ambrose and Grinnell. The men took second out of three at Saint Ambrose and sixth out of seven in Grinnell. The women were second out of two, and sixth out of six.
