MT. PLEASANT — The Iowa Wesleyan women’s soccer team is conference tournament bound.
The Tigers needed a win over Waldorf University on Thursday to earn a spot in the Continental Athletic Conference’s postseason tournament, and they got just what they needed with a 2-1 victory at Bracewell Stadium in Burlington.
Iowa Wesleyan’s Laura Rincon put the Tigers on top with a goal in the 13th minute. Waldorf tied the game in the 74th minute, but just 55 seconds later, the Tigers went back up on a goal from Giovana Pedressani, assisted by Izela Avalos.
Iowa Wesleyan Kylie Mulhern-Guilli saved nine of the 10 shots she faced in the victory to earn a huge win in net.
It was Iowa Wesleyan’s fourth win of the season. The Tigers are now 4-9-1 after earning a tie against Lyon College over the weekend.
The Tiger women have two more regular season games this season before heading off to Lawrenceville, Georgia, on Nov. 12 and 13 to compete for the CAC championship.
This week is a huge week for Iowa Wesleyan athletics on the basketball court. The Tigers will face Waldorf in a basketball doubleheader on Wednesday night, with the women playing at 5:30 p.m., and the men playing at 7 p.m.
The women’s game will mark the return of head coach Steve Williamson. Williamson is the second-winningest coach in Iowa Wesleyan history but hasn’t coached at IW since 2017.
The rosters for both the women’s and men’s basketball teams can be found on the Iowa Wesleyan athletic website. A few former Southeast Iowa preps are on the squads.
Mt. Pleasant’s Maddie Williamson plays for her dad on the women’s team. The men’s team includes Mt. Pleasant’s Brevin Wilson, New London’s Alex Dentlinger and Grant Swanson, as well as a handful of players from Burlington, Notre Dame and Fort Madison.
