Iowa Wesleyan hosted Webster in a basketball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Ruble Arena. The Tigers dropped both games, falling 94-57 in the women's game and 66-52 in the men's game.
The Tiger women had a tough time handling a fierce full court press from Webster, especially after a couple of starters getting into heavy foul trouble early. Darby and Allie Massner each had three fouls in the first half.
Webster led 20-9 after the first quarter and 45-24 at halftime, going on a big run at the end of the second quarter with the Massners playing minimal due to foul troubles.
'We had a couple players get in foul trouble and when they came out, our energy dropped a bit,” Tiger head coach Jack Bruns said about the run. 'We told the girls, we've got to make sure we're mentally strong enough that even if we lose a couple of starters to fouls, that's an opportunity for everyone else to step up.”
Webster continued to score in droves in the final two quarters and the Tigers couldn't keep up despite four players reaching double digits.
Harriet Fowler had it going early and ended the game with 15 points, including three shots from down town. She also led the team with five assists. D. Massner ended the game with 15 points of her own, going 8-8 from the free throw line in the process.
A. Massner had 10 points and six rebounds in the loss. Deericka Martin scored 10. Madison Scholl scored three, and both Sarah Kavanh and Emily Hammel had two.
The Tiger men battled with the Gorloks in the first half, but trailed 34-27 at the break. Webster stretched the lead to double digits early in the second quarter and walked out with a 14-point win.
Alberto Torres and Camron Mack scored 12 points apiece in the win. Both players started the game from the bench. Torres went 4-8 from the field, and 4-6 from three-point land. Mack went 5-7 from the field and 4-6 from down town.
Austin Rebel had 10 points nad six rebounds in the loss. Avree Clark finished with nine points. Jarryd Fernandes scored five points, and both Jake Neubauer and Kaleb Cresswell had two.
The IW women fell to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the SLIAC. The men dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The two teams will take on Spalding University on the road on Saturday, Dec. 8.
