Iowa Wesleyan swept on road

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A rough week for Iowa Wesleyan basketball ended with two losses on Saturday at Spalding. The men dropped a tight one, 76-71, and the women fell 88-46.
The Tiger men led at halftime for the second-straight game but the Tigers had trouble finishing again.
IW took a 38-32 advantage into the break. Spalding scrapped back in the second half and took the lead on a three-pointer with 12:13 remaining.
The Golden Eagles led by as much as eight in the second half. IW made a big run in the final minutes, cutting the lead down to one point, at 72-71, on a Jake Neubauer three-pointer with just 39 seconds left.
After a couple of Spalding free throws stretched the lead to 74-71, IW had a three-point attempt from Alex Dentlinger to tie the game, but the ball couldn't find the net and Spalding grabbed the rebound, and then iced the game at the line.
Neubauer led the squad with 26 points on the day, including an incredible seven three-pointers. He also dished out six assists.
Jarryd Fernandes and Marvin Saintolien collected 10 points apiece in the loss. Dentlinger finished with nine points and nine rebounds. Austin Banks had eight poitns. Jett Tjaden scored six, and Robert Heise had two.
The IW women trailed 18-8 after the first quarter, 46-15 at halftime and 73-34 after three periods.
Allie Massner led the squad with 19 points and six rebounds, sinking five three-pointers in the process. Morgan McCrea scored 17 points off the bench.
Maddie Williamson and Deericka Martin had three points epiece. Da'Jaah Swolley and Sydney Farrar scored two points each.
Iowa Wesleyan's men are now 3-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The women are 1-7 overall and 1-2 in the SLIAC.
